Jamaica nice (Jah mek ya nice)

Jamaica’s official language is English but locals often speak creole otherwise called “patois,” which is considered to be the most unique language in the world. Patois consists of many words from the English language and is the most widely spoken language in Jamaica.

While visiting our island, you will be exposed to this unique way of communication - let Jamaica Customized Vacation & Tours give you a head start. When you hear a local say “yah mon,” it simply means “yes.”

If someone says to you “wha’appen?” it’s our way of saying “what’s up?” We use this greeting when talking with our friends. In Jamaica, “walk good” is our way of saying good bye, take care or safe traveling with good wishes.

Men in Jamaica often refer to the way a female looks as “criss.” It’s their way of telling you that you are pretty or fine looking. “Yuh nah come a bashment lata?” means “Aren’t you going to the party or exciting event later?”

Now ‘rhaatid” is not a profane word, however, we use it to express how we feel or intensify what we are trying to say. Ever heard the word “blabbah mout?” This is someone who talks too much.

One thing we guarantee is a smile on everyone’s face that we come in contact with! So book with Jamaica Customized Vacation & Tours and experience our culture with us.

Port of Call: Falmouth

Disembarking at the Falmouth pier? Well, this pier was built specially to accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world, namely the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Sea. From the start, Falmouth was a thoroughly planned town, with wide streets in a regular grid, public buildings and adequate water supply.  In fact, Falmouth had piped water even before New York City!

Falmouth has a number of interesting historic buildings in the Jamaican Georgian architectural style. Although the best way to capture the essence of Falmouth is to do a complete walking tour, there are some buildings that stand out, even more so after restoration. It is located in the parish from which the fastest human known to man today, Usain Bolt, was born!

On your stopover in Falmouth, you may visit Outameni Experience, Glistening Waters Restaurant and Marina, Greenwood Great House, Green Grotto Caves, Cranbrook Farm, Dunn’s River Falls, Bob Marley Mausoleum, do rafting on the Martha Brae or go  by Negril’s seven mile long beach along with Margaritaville & Rick’s Café.

Remember, whatever you want to do while you are in Jamaica, we will be here to assist you.  Also, please leave feedback with us. We would really like to know what would make your time ashore worthwhile!

Port of Call: Montego Bay...

It’s a Wednesday or Thursday and you are about to disembark at the Montego Bay port. Have you made arrangements to maximize your time of enjoyment ashore? If you’ve never been to the Montego Bay port, you need to know just a few things.

First off: Transportation, to bring you around to various points of interest. You may just want to be picked up and dropped off somewhere to do sightseeing or just to go to the beach. Therefore, when shopping around for transportation, always do your research to find companies that are safe and reliable but offer reasonable transfer rates.

Now that you’ve thought about how you want to get around, what do you want to do when you get to Montego Bay? The beauty of docking in Montego Bay is that you may get to cover much more distance than you would if you were docked at the other ports. You may go to Negril, Falmouth in Trelawny or as far as Ocho Rios and still make it back in time to board your ship.

How about zip-lining, a tranopy or an ATV ride? Dunn’s River Falls, bamboo rafting, helicopter tours, sightseeing, Mystic Mountain, the Appleton Estate Rum tour, Rick’s Café, Margaritaville and many other attractions are available for you to enjoy while away from your floating hotel.

Don’t forget to sample some of the local cuisine. Jerk chicken at Scotchie’s with some roast yam should hit the right spot! If you get the chance, try cane juice and make sure you sample some coconut water in the husk otherwise called “jelly coconut."

Whatever you want to do while you are in Jamaica, we will be here to assist you.  Also, please leave feedback with us. We would like to know what would make your time ashore worthwhile!
